Croque-monsieur

Croque (Croquer) means to bite in English.

This sandwich was prepared in the past for the men for their lunch.

That's why this dish is called Croque-Monsieur.

Apparently, we could eat those sandwich in a Café parisien around 1910.

With the women's movement in the 60's, Croque-Madame was invented.

So... what is the difference?

Well, the only difference is the sunny side up egg on top of the sandwich.

크로크 (크로케)는 "베어물다"라는 뜻이에요.

이 샌드위치가 예전에 집의 가장들이 일하러 나갔을때 

그들을 위해 준비했던 간단한 점심메뉴였대요. 

그래서 이름이... 아저씨의 한입(?) ㅎㅎ

1910년대부터 빠리에 있는 까페들이 이 샌드위치를 메뉴에 올렸대요.

그리고 60년대에 여성들을 위한 크로크 마담이 생겼지요.

신사와 숙녀의 한입 샌드위치... 뭐가 다를까요?

똑같아요 ㅎㅎ 숙녀를 위한 샌드위치 위에 계란을 올리는것 뿐이에요.

Croque-Madame

It is basically Grilled Ham-cheese sandwich.

But if you imagine the american grilled cheese sandwich, there is nothing similar 

or maybe yes, the fact that the sandwich is hot and the cheese is melting.

The most important part of this sandwich is the right balance of Bechamel sauce, ham and swiss cheese.

언뜻 보면 그냥 따뜻한 햄-치즈 샌드위치 같아 보이죠?

그런데 미국식 치즈 샌드위치를 생각하신다면 비교할 바가 아니에요.

이 샌드위치의 포인트는 바로 베샤멜 소스와, 햄, 치즈의 조화에요.

These both sandwiches are DELICIOUS!!

It is not light... you can imagine but... so yummy!!

It is still one of the go-to lunch for Parisians.

It is a French dish but it is not as complicated as you think.
