Pain perdu = Lost bread? Best French toast ever! 진정한 프렌치들의 프렌치 토스트!

First time I ordered a French toast in a US restaurant, I was actually very surprised.
Shame on me...
Honestly I didn't know what a "French toast" was so I was curious to try.
I was expecting something fancy, it sounds pretty nice "French toast".

Mais... But...
C'est du Pain perdu!
In France, we don't call those bread "French toast"
but we call it Pain Perdu which is literally the Lost Bread...

Yep, Lost bread because it is not fresh anymore so you are about to throw it away
but you feel bad and you try to save that old bread.

Well, I was not disappointed because I like "French toast".
And I make them very very often at home.
Because...
It's so easy, simple and fast!!
And of course Delicious!

Pain perdu. French toast

For 2 French toasts:
You need nice big slices of leftover bread, brioche preferably.
In a mixing bowl, beat 2 eggs
3/4 Cup of Half and Half
2 Tbs of sugar
a pinch of salt

Put the bread in the batter overnight or at least an hour.
(depending on how old/hard your bread is)

On a heated skillet, add a Tbs of butter
When melted, put the soaked bread slices on the skillet.
Leave few minutes each side until golden brown.

Remove from the skillet,
dispose them nicely on a plate,
sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar and if you want, with honey or maple syrup.
Add fruits if you like!

I like to eat them as is, without any fruit or cream on top.
It is so good!!
But you follow your wants and tastes!

Enjoy!!
BON APPETIT!!
